Irish Nightscapes 09-12.2025

Curated Mini Series

These images are a part of my long standing project of documenting old legacy night scenes and are a tribute to the fast changing nightscape of Ireland.

I grew up in Ireland under the monochrome light of low pressure sodium lamps. Since 2020, nearly all of them were replaced by bright white LED lights, changing the night I knew so well forever. It was in aprt this change that inspired me to pursue my night photography project.

I was living abroad in the Czech Republic for college during much of the last few years, focusing on documenting night scenes over there. This meant that after coming back in September 2025, I was under pressure to capture the very last legacy lights I could find in Limerick and beyond. What I have done is capturing the transition of the last of the warmth into a new era of familiar-looking yet unchartered waters. That feeling of everything being the same on paper, yet fundamentally different in reality at the same time.

The era of the comfortable world seems to be over for the most of us. In many ways I feel that we have gotten exactly what we had asked for in the 2010s, an almost dystopian tech future, but one that is unfortunately still run on the most primitive of emotions.
