Black & White Work '23-'25
Curated Mini Series
Being honest, I did not start off with black and white film. When I picked up film in 2020, I lived with the idea that despite black and white being cheaper, the development was more expensive and I didnt see "space" for it. At that point I didnt take photography all that seriously, more just a way to capture my personal life, and I wanted that in colour.
It was only in 2023 that I really felt the urge to use black and white. Make commitments. My way of seeing things had changed and I remembered being very curious, wishing to just focus on light, shadow, contrast. I took my first roll of black and white film at the end of 2023 and was blown away by the results. I also bought another camera in 2024 which meant I could bring along both colour and black and white film. I have since shot some of my favourite images on black and white, even though I still shoot more colour. Black and white is truly timeless, and some images have slowly grown on me in a way that colour dosen't do.
These shots are a mix mainly from the Czech Republic, with some from Ireland. Most are tied to my project Rozvoj X, while others are from the abandoned military are VVP Ralsko. I have a bakclog of undeveloped BnW films at home in Ireland waiting for me to find the time to develop them myself.
